The RSAC Scottish Rally doesn't hit the stages in anger until Saturday, 28 June 2008, but preparations are already well underway and the rally programme kicks off this weekend. Following on from previous years, the Scottish Rally team will take to the streets of Dumfries this Saturday, 14 June to promote the event - local rally cars will be joined by some local enterprises and guest vehicles from Dumfries dealer and rally backer James Haugh Subaru. The preview will be on the High Street just below the Mid Steeple from early morning until late afternoon, and programmes should be available for purchase.
Less than a week after that it's the turn of the drivers and co-drivers themselves to set out their stall with a Rally Forum on the evening of Friday, 20 June. Top competitors from the past and present will field questions in the James Haugh Subaru dealership. The forum gets underway from 7.30pm and tickets will be on sale at the door, with the general public all very welcome to attend. A charity raffle will follow the forum - for which Louise Aitken Walker and Dumfries rally hotshot David Bogie are already booked in among others - with proceeds going to charities set up in honour of the late Colin McRae.
If that wasn't enough, there will also be a shakedown stage on Friday, 27 June in Ae Forest. This is the last chance for crews to prepare their cars before they take to the famous forests of Dumfries and Galloway the next day, and it also offers the chance for sponsors and bona-fide media to get closer to the action. A shuttle service will be laid on to take guests to the stage and light refreshments will be made available. Sponsors or media interested in coming along should contact rally Press Officer Leslie Mabon in the first instance at leslie.mabon@scottishrally.co.uk to get more information.
And then, after all that buildup, it's time for the rally itself! Headquarters will again be at the Dumfries Ice Bowl where the rally help desk will be located, and the competition is making its way through the forests all morning and afternoon. Pick up a programme for more information, or come back to www.scottishrally.co.uk to find out more.
