With just over six weeks until the RSAC Scottish Rally, regulations for Scotland’s oldest stage event are now available. The Dumfries-based rally again takes in some of the most challenging forest routes the area has to offer, and will see competitors tackle Ae, Greskine and Kinharvie as well as popping into the ever-popular Heathall spectator stage. Forty-five stage miles are on offer, and the action takes place on Saturday, 28 June 2008.
In line with previous years, the historic machinery will run ahead of the main rally, with the smaller-engined two-wheel drive cars not far behind them in line with other forest events. This will pave the way for the main field of more powerful two-wheel drives and four-wheel drives, and the Land Rovers will round off the action. The Scottish is a counter in the hotly-contested County Saab MSA Scottish Rally Championship and Brick and Steel 205 Ecosse Challenge series, and also counts towards the Beatson’s Building Supplies Borders Rally Championship, Five of Clubs Championship and Motoscope Northern Historic Rally Championship. Add in the fact that there hasn’t been a forest rally in Scotland since the end of April and a bumper entry looks on the cards!
The entertainment isn’t limited to those in the competing cars, though. The buildup to the RSAC Scottish Rally will start earlier than usual this year, with a Preview Day in Dumfries town centre on Saturday, 14 June – a range of rally cars and local businesses will be on hand all day for those eager to find out what rallying is all about. Then on the evening of Friday, 20 June, James Haugh Subaru are putting on a forum in their Dumfries showroom, where the stage stars will be fielding questions from the media and members of the public with the aim of raising money for the charities established in honour of the late, great Colin McRae.
Just like the rally cars that will be making their way along the Ae stage at 70mph plus, the RSAC Scottish Rally couldn’t run without its invaluable team of supporters. We are extremely grateful to Dumfries and Galloway Council for their continued support, and also welcome a new partner on board for 2008 in the form of James Haugh Subaru. Haugh Subaru will be present at the Preview Day and are also backing one of the rally’s forest stages as they look to continue the association of Subaru with rally driving.
Given that you’ve now just finished reading four information-filled paragraphs, it’s obvious that this year’s RSAC Scottish Rally is going to be surrounded by plenty of activity. If you want to get in on the action, then regulations are available from here.
And it goes without saying that we’re looking for marshals, who as always will be well rewarded for their efforts – drop Chief Marshal Craig Webster a line at craig.webster@scottishrally.co.uk. Finally, any crews interested in taking part in either the Preview Day or the Forum should get in touch with Leslie Mabon at leslie.mabon@scottishrally.co.uk. We look forward to seeing you out and about in Dumfries and Galloway at the end of June!
